If a dominatrix does not understand how to use the implements she has for punishment, she will not be effective. The first implement that a dominatrix may use is the hand. The hand is used for warm up spankings, as well as less serious spankings. A hand spanking on a bare bottom can hurt quite a bit and can be an effective punishment. The problem with a dominatrix using her hand is that her hand will eventually begin to sting, which is why other implements are usually incorporated into punishments.

A paddle is often used for a spanking that is somewhat more intimate than a whip or a cane. A dominatrix can use a paddle in many different ways when punishing a submissive. Often, a dominant will take the submissive over her knee when using a paddle for punishment. The paddle can then be used in firm strokes in order to punish the submissive.

A whip or a belt is a more intense form of punishment. Instead of the submissive being over the knee of the dominatrix, he will lean over a sofa or another object. The dominatrix will then swing the whip or belt in a smooth manner. Some force is needed, but not so much that the dominant tears the skin of the submissive. A whip or a belt should be used for somewhat severe punishments.

If a submissive has done something terrible and requires a very severe punishment, the dominatrix may use a cane on him. A cane does not look like much, but it is incredibly painful. It can cause welts on the skin, along with skin breakage and bruising. A dominatrix should be incredibly mindful of the cane. It does not need to be swung very hard in order to inflict pain. A submissive should not be beaten with a cane. He should only receive a few strokes from it, and those strokes should not be very hard.

In order for a dominatrix to effectively punish her submissive, she needs to be comfortable with the different implements. She many want to practice swinging the implements before she uses them on her partner. That will allow her to become comfortable with them before they are used for punishment.
